Blue Lobster

The aftertaste of millions came in traces

through a million little conduits,

and in my flesh those traces

are returned. But great proliferator,

I am rare. Blue so. I visit you in traps.

And always this catches your large eyes

bugged and your websites all like

Wow!— absorbed in my mutation.

What divides me from my kind is only

a teachable moment, but who needs it?

My chromosomes are avant-garde.

More snorkeler than diviner, I can’t

instruct you to the water surrounding us.

I bring you flakes, epithelia

from the island, acquired by the molluscs

who filter there, that is all.

But let us not enumerate our differences.

I have tasted you and you have

tasted me. You dwell. I come yonder

the drainpipe. It is a conduit

from where my place is still unclear

to where you live so clearly,

but that is not a difference, per se.

Just call me Mr. Not Necessarily.
